Cotton Bowl Preview: Arkansas Razorbacks

The day all Wildcat fans have been waiting for is nearly upon us. Rap battles have occurred. Trash talk has circulated the two teams’ message boards. But on January 6th the players will have the final word on which team is the best. It will also be the only match-up between Big 12 and the SEC this season. Therefore, there is a lot at stake in this game and it means more than just one team beating another.

Kansas State football signs two

The standout junior college wide receiver Marquez Clark from Texarkana, Texas, took his first official visit to Pitt and a week later made his way to Manhattan, Kansas to check out Kansas State. Following his visit, Kansas State became the future home for the talented wideout.

K-State to face Arkansas in Cotton Bowl

Calling this a tremendous weekend for the Kansas State Wildcats athletics program would be an understatement.  The Kansas State volleyball team upset #2 Nebraska, in Lincoln, to advance to the sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. Meanwhile, Kansas State’s men’s basketball team remained undefeated beating George Washington Thursday night and followed it up with another win Sunday afternoon on the road against Virginia Tech. The Lady Cats also won an impressive overtime game against Iowa on Saturday. But the weekend was capped off Sunday night as the Kansas State Wildcats discovered that they have been chosen to represent the Big 12 in the 2012 Cotton Bowl.

K-State rallys for victory against Baylor

For the second consecutive week I have to say something that I did not expect to say at all this season; the Kansas State defense stepped up to win the game! Robert Griffin III passed over, around, and ran through K-State’s defense the entire game, except when they needed to most. Kansas State, thanks to inspired fourth quarter play by junior Arthur Brown, came back after trailing by 9 with less than 6 minutes in the game to beat the Baylor Bears.

K-State opens Big 12 play against Baylor

Kansas State is coming off an impressive road win against the University of Miami (FL), in a game where the Cats were 12.5 point underdogs but were still able to shock the nation in a thrilling 28-24 victory. What was most impressive about the game was without a doubt the Wildcat defense. K-State held Miami on four consecutive plays from the two yard-line to win the game. Last year’s unit would have allowed this fast Miami team to walk right in on first down. Not this year as Tre Walker swarmed to Jacory Harris on fourth down, sending a message to the nation: the Lynch Mob is on its way back.

Ranking the Big 12: Texas Tech Red Raiders

Tommy Tuberville enters his second season with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and will look to follow up on a successful 8-5 season, that resulted in a Ticket City Bowl victory. The Red Raiders have been one of the most successful teams in the Big 12 Conference over the past decade. This season Texas Tech loses a lot of talent, but does bring in a very good recruiting class.

Ranking the Big 12: Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas was, and is predicted to be again, the worst team in the Big 12. KU should be improved this season and that should keep them from finishing last in the conference, but they will still be quite bad. Last year KU was a team full of inexperience. They had no identity as they had lost their star quarterback, halfback, and two leading wide receivers. But now they bring in a strong recruiting class, with returning starters at all three of those key positions. Yet though they do have returning experience, it is not very talented as KU was hands down the worst team in the Big 12 last year, winning only one game in the leage, as well as losing at home to North Dakota State.

Ranking the Big 12: Iowa State Cyclones

Most experts are picking Kansas to finish last in the Big 12 Conference this year, and for good reason. The Jayhawks were terrible last season finishing with an overall 3-9 record. But KU returns a lot of their core players plus a top 40 recruiting class. For that reason the Iowa State Cyclones are picked to finish at the bottom of the conference in this 10-part Ranking the Big 12 series. Iowa State does bring back the majority of their core defensive players, but lose most of their offense.

Previewing K-State football in 2011

There are only 31 days remaining until the 2011 K-State Family Reunion football game against Eastern Kentucky. The expectations are high from Wildcat fans, but once again K-State is not getting much respect from the media, being picked to finish 8th in the Big 12 by most media outlets.

A look back at K-State sports in 2010-11

The past athletic year was special for Kansas State. In 2010-11, the Wildcats were one of just six schools nationally to have their football team make a bowl game, see both basketball teams make the NCAA Tournament, and have the baseball team make an NCAA Regional.

K-State dominates Texas on Senior Day, 39-14

Welcome to the show, Collin Klein. Making his first career start at quarterback on Senior Day, the sophomore led the Kansas State Wildcats to an impressive 39-14 victory over the Texas Longhorns. The impressive fact about Klein’s performance was that he did it with only four passing attempts, for a whopping nine yards passing.

Cats to face struggling Texas on Senior Day

The Kansas State Wildcats will be facing a familiar opponent this week, the Texas Longhorns. Both teams are experiencing their most difficult part of the season. For the Wildcats, they are coming off back to back heartbreakers to Baylor and Oklahoma State. Texas is coming off two straight home losses to Iowa State and Baylor. The difference between the two is that Texas was expected to win, and Kansas State was in fact the underdog in both of their games.

Wildcats to face Oklahoma State in a pivotal matchup

Kansas State could substantially upgrade their bowl game with a win against the #17 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. This is, of course, assuming that the Wildcats win at least one game at either Colorado or North Texas. The Cats are coming off a hard-fought loss at Baylor, a game many expected them to lose anyway. The Cowboys are coming off a loss at home to Nebraska. Both teams head into this weekend’s match-up with something to prove.

#22 K-State travels to Baylor with bowl eligibility within reach

Now that the dust has had a chance to settle from the great road win in Lawrence, Kansas State faces another road trip to Waco to take on the upstart Baylor Bears. If you looked at this game at the beginning of the season, you probably didn’t expect there to be controversy that this game was not televised. Both K-State and Baylor can qualify for a bowl game with a win. Making this game huge for the Wildcats; who will then head into a tough three week stretch with games against Oklahoma State, Texas, and at Missouri. With KSU finishing the regular season against North Texas, this game has much more significance to Baylor’s bowl chances than the Wildcats’. Baylor will finish their remaining four games against the teeth of the Big 12 South with road games at Texas and Oklahoma State, before hosting Texas A&M and Oklahoma; all of which are games Baylor could possibly lose, and would thus not reach a bowl game.

Nebraska at K-State for old times’ sake

On June 12th, 2010 the Big 12 woke to inevitable news. In weeks leading up to that particular date Nebraska had been rumored to be accepting a bid to join the Big Ten Conference. On June 12th, those rumors were confirmed and Nebraska officially abandoned the Big 12. On that day fans of all Big 12 schools were enraged, and many that were fortunate to have home games against Nebraska circled that day on their schedule. For Kansas State, that day–October 7th—is upon us.

K-State vs. Nebraska: Past, Present, Future

The year is 2000. KSU has a solid, not dominant like 1998, team with Jonathan Beasley at quarterback, Josh Scobey at running back, and Quincy Morgan at receiver. The Wildcats are trying to claw their way back to the Big 12 Championship Game and a potential BCS bowl berth, from a season where the possibilities seemed so much greater. Kansas State has already lost at home to an emerging Oklahoma team with Josh Heupel at quarterback, and would later follow with a road loss to unranked Texas A&M.

Coffman leads K-State to 17-13 comeback victory

His name has been tarnished, his abilities questioned. He was a starter who lost his job, a player who has been singled out for two years for nearly every loss of which he had taken part. Yet, he won the game against Central Florida for Kansas State when nothing seemed to be going right. His name is Carson Coffman.

K-State defense makes late stand to beat Iowa State, 27-20

Farmageddon II has come and gone. For the second straight season the fans that showed up to the game were treated with a last minute thriller. The games highlights will not be shown on ESPN over and over again, nor will it be discussed by the majority of college football fans, other than the fact that Iowa State and Kansas State fans could only combine to send 38,000 fans to a neutral site game. But to the few number who actually showed up to the newly remodeled Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City know that they witnessed a gem.

Commentary: A look at K-State entering Big 12 play

Kansas State now has 2 games under their belt. Those games definitely featured two different Wildcat teams. Yes, Missouri State was the “let down game” between UCLA and Iowa State. However, that does give us a chance to see both ends of the spectrum on both sides of the ball. Consistency will be a concern moving forward this year, as we are still yet to see what this 2010 Wildcat team is capable of. If there is anyone to coach consistency and get the maximum out of a player or unit, it’s Bill Snyder.

K-State will open conference play against Iowa State

It is week 3 of the college football season and thus far it has been a shocking and exciting season. Every week has featured multiple head-turning upsets such as Kansas losing to North Dakota State and then defeating 15th-ranked Georgia Tech the following week. James Madison also pulled a shocker against 13th-ranked Virginia Tech, and Jacksonville State defeated Mississippi in a shootout. Games like these are why college football is the greatest sport in America. Anyone can win on any given day.

Carson Coffman wants to prove he’s got this

Carson Coffman wants to prove to Kansas State fans that he’s got this.

The senior quarterback is chomping at the bit to give those doubters out there the peace of mind that he is capable of leading this team to big things.

So far, the 6’3 – 211 lb. product from Peculiar, Missouri, who is also the son of former Wildcat and NFL player, Paul Coffman, is succeeding. Coffman has earned the respect of his teammates, his coach, and is slowly but surely gaining the respect of the fans clad in purple.

K-State moves past Missouri State with 48-24 win

Another Saturday has come and gone as has another Wildcat victory. In front of 48,672 fans the Kansas State Wildcats avoided an upset by the Missouri State Bears. In a year where FCS upsets have not been uncommon, Kansas State hung out and defeated the dangerous offense of the Bears by a final score of 48-24. Though the score doesn’t show it, Missouri State showed a lot of heart and pride in their performance.

K-State looks to handle Missouri State

It was an exciting week in Manhattan, KS this past week as Kansas State fans savored a big Wildcat victory against the UCLA Bruins. Wildcat fans also had another treat, with the Kansas Jayhawks losing to North Dakota State, which ironically is a Missouri Valley Conference team (Kansas has had notable basketball “chokes” against Northern Iowa/Bradley). Kansas State seems to be moving in the right direction and Kansas is just in a new system, with way too many new players, and are not looking very well. Life is good.
