K-State rules ESPN’s “Big Monday” in 2010-11

Last season, the Kansas State Wildcats were major players in the NCAA Tournament. However, they still weren’t given enough credit for what they achieved. They reached major accomplishments that the program hasn’t in decades.

In 2010-11, the Wildcats return 2 starters from last year’s Elite Eight team, while bringing in key freshman recruits. Not to mention, the Wildcats talent that was reserved last season, will finally be able to prove they’re for real.

Nino Williams set to enroll at K-State

A scholarship made available by senior-to-be Dominique Sutton’s departure last week has already been filled. Nino Williams of Leavenworth, KS will join the K-State basketball program for the 2010-11 season, according to The Topeka Capital-Journal. The 4-star recruit chose the Wildcats over the USC Trojans last October and will enroll in summer school at K-State.

Dominique Sutton to transfer closer to home, children

Kansas State was one of the hottest teams in college basketball last year. Behind their terrific guard play the Wildcats were able to make a run to the Elite Eight. However, what most people fail to realize is how much the frontcourt really influenced the game for the Wildcats. Dominique Sutton brought defensive intensity, Jamar Samuels gave instant contributions off the bench, and Curtis Kelly did it all in the post. This set up a perfect beginning for the Wildcats heading into next season.

Big 12 will survive; Texas rejects offer to join Pac-10

According to The Dallas Morning News, the Big 12 Conference will survive with its 10 remaining members. Larry Scott, commissioner of the Pac-10, informed the AP in an email that Texas rejected an offer to join his conference. On Monday, all 10 remaining schools met with Fox Sports to work on the framework of a deal that would provide enough money to keep the Big 12 alive.

ESPN reported that sources have informed them that Texas A&M will also remain a member of the Big 12. The Aggies were believed to be the final hold up in saving the conference.

Conference realignment threatens to destroy the Big 12

The ultimatum imposed by Big 12 Conference school presidents on Nebraska and Missouri to state their intentions on whether they would remain committed to the Big 12, or move elsewhere, has been met. The Big Ten Conference accepted Nebraska’s application to join their league, and the Huskers will join the Big Ten in 2011. Colorado accepted an invitation to join the Pac-10 Conference and will head west in 2012.

While Nebraska and Colorado head off to their new homes, with few things nice to stay about their former conference allies and no regrets, the fate of the Big 12 is apparently in the hands of Texas. Reports on Friday indicated that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State were prepared to join the Buffaloes in the Pac-10, with announcements coming as soon as Monday.

Keys to basketball success in 2010-11

This Kansas State basketball team was the talk of the sports nation before losing to Butler in the Elite Eight.

What a season the Wildcats had. They finished with the second best record in arguably the best conference in college basketball with a 11-5 record in the Big 12, along with a 24-6 record overall to end the regular season. Going into the Big 12 Tournament the Wildcats were two wins away from the all-time wins record in K-State history.

Brad Hill: Legend in the making?

Bill Snyder and Frank Martin can be linked to one thing, turning programs that were considered to be at the very bottom into legitimate championship contenders. Snyder took a team who had been to one bowl game in school history on an incredible ride which included 11 consecutive bowl games, 4 Big 12 North championships, and won the Big 12 title in 2003. Martin, who started his stint at K-State as an assistant for Bob Huggins, is in the process of reviving a sleeping giant of a program after taking the Wildcats to the Elite 8 for the first time since 1988. Now, another coach deserves the same amount of respect as these two great coaches: head coach of the baseball team, Brad Hill.

Wally Judge seeks to meet high expectations

Kansas State head coach Frank Martin welcomed in five recruits last year. K-State fans had high hopes for all the recruits, but the one with the highest was McDonald’s All American Wally Judge.

Judge came out of high school with high aspirations. He was expected to be the next great Wildcat freshman, following in the steps of fellow 5-star recruits Michael Beasley and Bill Walker. Judge was tabbed as the No. 4 overall power forward in the 2010 recruiting class, and No. 15 overall prospect according to ESPNU 100 rankings.
