Kansas State is in need of a point guard after this season because senior Jacob Pullen will graduate, and likely make his way to the NBA. A great lead guard candidate for the future is current sophomore Martavious Irving. However, aside from Will Spradling, no other player shows the same promise as Pullen when it comes to being the next great point guard for head coach Frank Martin and the Wildcats.
Enter Angel Rodriguez. The 6-foot point guard from Miami, Florida has committed to Martin and the Wildcats, a month after his official visit during Madness in Manhattan.
Rodriguez, a mentally tough kid could come in and help right away with added build to his frame. He will bring in talents similar to that of Pullen. Rodriguez is a lot quicker and can finish around the rim with ease.
However, Rodriguez will need to tighten up on his shooting ability, as well as his vision. These are all things that he can fix before he comes to Kansas State.
The point guard from Miami’s Dr. Krop High School joins a stacked recruiting class that features two transfers in Omari Lawrence (St. Johns) and Willie Reed (Saint Louis). Thomas Gipson, an ESPNU Top 100 power forward, and 7-foot big man Adrian Diaz will make their way to Manhattan next season as well. Both Gipson and Diaz signed their letter of intent to play for K-State today.
Once again, the Wildcats will embrace a talented recruiting class that will keep them competitive. Now the Wildcats have added a point guard in Rodriguez, who will have the duty of filling in for Pullen next season.
