The momentum seems to carry on the side of the Baylor Bears after a tight game with Kansas last week and a floor-sweeping of UMass. Baylor looks to knock off the 11th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats in Waco, Texas at 7pm on Tuesday.
Kansas State should have been riding high after beating then-number 1 Texas, but after a poor showing against Oklahoma State and disappointing home loss, the Cats feel they have a lot to prove.
The last time the Wildcats played in Waco, they suffered a 20-point loss. The Bears are currently averaging roughly 79 points per game, while allowing just 62. Baylor is undefeated at home this year and riding an 11-game win streak at the Ferrell Center. Kansas State is averaging 82 points per game while allowing 68.
Kansas State will not make excuses and needs to go into Waco expecting a big game from Baylor’s Ekpe Udoh, who is strong down low and will attack the basket. The Wildcats’ Curtis Kelly had a difficult time on the defensive side of the floor against Oklahoma State so expect Baylor to attack Kelly as much as possible.
Keys to Victory
Denis Clemente, Jacob Pullen, and Curtis Kelly. Clemente and Pullen will have to take smart shots. If they can get hot early, the Wildcats can take the breath out of the Ferrell Center. Kelly needs to defend well against Udoh. Don’t expect another 20 point wipeout this year in Waco, but this game will be very tough for Kansas State. Baylor is going to come out on the attack, and the first five minutes will be the most important of the game.
If K-State can get up early and take the crowd out of the game, they have a shot. However, if Baylor starts the game on a run it may be tough for the Wildcats to overcome, and the Ferrell Center crowd could prove too much. Frank Martin needs to make sure his team is prepared for this road game or it may be a very long trip to Waco.
