K-State Recruiting

After concluding a successful July live period, Frank Martin couldn’t be more ecstatic about how much he’s gained in the recruitment of many of his 2012 targets. It’s become more evident that the four targets for Kansas State in the 2012 class is Perry Ellis, Marcus Smart, Willie Cauley and Phil Forte.

Forte is a relatively new name to K-Staters. Forte had an amazing summer playing alongside Smart, which helped him pick up many high-major offers in the process. Forte and Smart, both from Flower Mound, Texas, could come as a package deal to Kansas State with both enjoying the thought of playing together in college.

Smart justified his status as one of the top players in the country and showcased his ability to play up to three positions in a college system. Martin was present for every game Smart and Forte played at the adidas Super 64 tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After narrowing down their college choices, Cauley and Ellis both said Kansas State was still in the mix. Martin watched the majority of both of their games this summer and made sure they were considered top-priority.

Notes on 2013 K-State Basketball Recruits

  • Kasey Hill is a 6-1 point guard from Montverde Academy in Florida and has a Kansas State offer along with a long list of other offers. He’s said that he doesn’t have a favorite and everyone is even but with the way he’s played this summer, Martin will surely try to make him a priority in the class of 2013.
  • Malcolm Hill is a 6-5 shooting guard from Belleville, Illinois. Hill caught the attention of K-State assistant Matt Figger and it didn’t take long for the Wildcats to offer. Hill’s game is silky smooth. He has the ability to score with ease and defend multiple positions.
  • Travis Jorgenson is a 5-11 point guard from Columbia, Missouri. He certainly fits the mold of a Kansas State point guard and K-State assistant Brad Underwood made sure his presence was felt, following Jorgenson around since showing interest. His handle is crazy good. His whole offensive repertoire is solid and still developing.
  • Semi Ojeleye is a 6-6 small forward from Ottawa, Kansas. The brother of current walk-on Victor Ojeleye picked up a scholarship offer from K-State weeks before the second evaluation period. The Wildcats will need wings after this years juniors graduate following next season.
  • Tyler Roberson is a 6-7 small forward from Roselle, New Jersey. He is considered one of the top forwards in his class, which is stocked with talented threes. His mid-range game is solid and with added weight he could be a true problem.
  • Antravious Simmons is a 6-9 power forward from Miami, Florida. He’s a big-time sleeper in the class of 2013, with only Kansas State and Miami (FL) showing interest. He’s a combo-big, meaning he can play both forward and center. He has soft hand and great touch around the rim.
  • Geno Thorpe is a 6-3 point guard from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When college coaches could contact rising juniors, Kansas State’s first call was to Thorpe. He’s definitely an electrifying athlete and he plans on taking a visit to Kansas State.

The class of 2013 will dictate how good the Wildcats will be in the near future. Many scholarships will be open with a lot of holes to fill. The Wildcats certainly haven’t narrowed down who they might target in the 2013 class as many prospects can still expect to gain their interest.

But the Wildcats have shown early interest in a few 2014 recruits this summer as well. Darreon Reddick, Darius Austin and Clay Custer, have all caught the attention of assistants this summer. It will be very interesting to see how the Wildcats distribute scholarship in the new few recruiting classes.
