Southwell--300x300

Shane Southwell is a very versatile forward inside as well as outside the paint. He does the little things well to get his team the basket. Southwell is ranked No. 21 for his position in the class of 2010 and ESPN scouts give him an overall grade of 92. He has good size, at 6’6″, and can play either the forward position or the guard position for Frank Martin’s Wildcats.

What attracted you to Kansas State?
Southwell: The coaching staff–I had the best relationship with them–and the fact that I knew a couple of the players there.

Do you believe you can jump right in and help this Wildcat team?
Southwell: Yeah, I believe I can help right away.

Frank Martin is known for his physical coaching style. Do you think you can handle that?
Southwell: Yes, I really don’t like if a coach doesn’t yell and is not fired up. All of the coaches that I was successful with were passionate.

I have had the opportunity to watch tons of film on you. There hasn’t been a doubt in my mind that you could be a great player, but in every player lies a weakness. What do you believe your weakness is and how do you plan on improving it?
Southwell: My long range shooting is probably my weakness but I’ve been working on it and all I have to do is continue to work on it.

I know you’re a guard/forward, but which position compliments you the best?
Southwell: Any position that helps the team win. Sometimes its forward and other times its guard.

Looking ahead to the next season, you’re in your first practice. What do you have to prove?
Southwell: That I’m here to contribute and win.

I respect every aspect of your game. In your eyes, what skill will Wildcat fans admire the most?
Southwell: My versatility, passing and ball handling.

What college or NBA player do you believe you’re most comparable to skill-wise?
Southwell: Penny Hardaway or Magic Johnson.

Who is your favorite NBA team?
Southwell: Cleveland.

Who wins the NBA Finals this year?
Southwell: Cleveland.

Is there anything the Wildcat fans should know about you?
Southwell: That I’m a very nice guy and I’m funny.
