The Kansas State basketball team is due for a big season this year. They’re a pre-season top-5 team now and were selected to win the Big 12 Championship by the conference coaches.
You can credit senior guard Jacob Pullen for that notion. However, transfers have been coming in lately and making a big impact for the Wildcats.
Denis Clemente, who transferred from the University of Miami (Fla.), was huge for the Wildcats. With Clemente and Pullen in the same backcourt, K-State was able to make a run to the Elite Eight last season. You can’t discount what University of Connecticut transfer Curtis Kelly did as well.
Transfers are starting to come in bunches for the Wildcats, and make a lasting impression on their rise to the top ranks of college basketball. Now Willie Reed, a former Saint Louis University standout, has decided to transfer to Kansas State as well.
That makes two transfer for the 2011 class, which also includes Omari Lawrence. Reed averaged 12.4 points and 7.9 rebounds during his sophomore season playing for the Billikens. Not to mention, he has attracted the attention of many NBA scouts and could be pro-bound when his college career is over.
Reed is a guy that will come right in and contribute. He is a lengthy 6-foot-9 junior that will be a solid replacement for senior Curtis Kelly. He can shoot the ball consistently, and make plays in the paint. Not to mention, his defensive ability is off the charts.
He has the ability to block, alter and rebound better than most in college basketball. He made an impact while at Saint Louis and will do the same once he puts on a Kansas State jersey.
The Wildcats 2011 recruiting class continues to look impressive. They now have three lengthy frontcourt players, and a highly-touted transfer in Lawrence. If Frank Martin can get Angel Rodriguez to commit, expect the Wildcats to continue dominance in the Big 12 and all of college basketball.
