With a chance to go to New York for the NIT season tip-off tournament, the Kansas State Wildcats (3-0) had to handle their business first and beat the Division II Alabama-Huntsville Chargers, who just beat a very good Division I North Texas team. In a pivotal early game, K-State made it look easy. Before the Chargers scored a point, K-State was up by seven. Before the Chargers reached five, Kansas State led by 21.

Matthew Atewe, a 6-9 power forward from Notre Dame Prep (MA), took a trip to Manhattan to take in the football game against North Texas and develop relationships with the basketball staff and learn about the program. “It was a lot of fun,” he said of his official visit. “I really enjoyed it.”

After a long recruiting process, 2013 Hirschi (Tex.) combo guard Marcus Foster ended his recruitment. Foster was one of the first prospects that the new staff targeted with Alvin Brooks III being the lead recruiter. Foster came to K-State this weekend for an official visit with a college decision looming. The 6-3 guard narrowed his list down and planned to visit Creighton before making his decision. Monday morning came and he changed his mind. The scoring guard announced his commitment to Kansas State over Creighton.

When Kansas State Wildcats president Kirk Schulz and athletic director John Currie introduced Bruce Weber as the school’s new head coach, a shockwave of disappointment fell over the Wildcat nation. Many questioned the hire for reasons stemming back to his dismissal at Illinois just a month ago.

The Kansas State Wildcats will announce Bruce Weber as the new head men’s basketball coach at a 3:00pm press conference today. On March 9th, Weber was fired from Illinois after finishing the season 17-15 with the Fighting Illini. Weber has a career coaching record of 313-155, including eight trips to the NCAA Tournament and an appearance in the national championship game in 2005.
